Assystem are seeking to recruit a procurement officer responsible for developing the strategy for procurement of some major plant and equipment in conjunction with a Defence Sector client in support of a Front End Engineering Team, including planning long lead items and evaluating subcontractors. Once the main phase commences the role will be more focused on a that of a buyer, raising POs, monitoring subcontractors etc Main Job Responsibilities: Develop procurement strategy Lead commercial discussions Plan long lead items Subcontractor evaluation and monitoring Procurement of items           Security: Due to the nature of work to be undertaken, applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance, if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level. Essential: Experience as a buyer in a highly regulated industry Sufficient practical engineering experience to influence and guide AEIL/supplier technical solutions Strong commercial awareness In depth knowledge of procurement and commercial techniques, concepts, principles and practices Computer literate in MS Office in Outlook, Word, Excel and MS Project Good presentational skills Desirable: Experience working in a range of industries, commercial arrangements and both goods and services Good understanding of the relevant regulations, codes and standards (Machinery Directive, Pressure Equipment Directive MCIPS status Personal Attributes: Capable of independent decision making Persuasive when necessary to get other parties to ‘buy-in’ to plan Problem solver in order to resolve issues of manufacturability, cost, time, quality and safety Able to engender trust and build rapport with all stakeholders, internal and external Able to organise and lead effective presentations Focused to ensuring project deadlines are met Has the ability to see the holistic view Unfazed by working with deadlines and pressure Qualifications and Affiliations: HND in an engineering discipline. Preferably BEng qualified.
