Description

Project Manager – Nuclear Island London Permanent Assystem is the second largest Nuclear Engineering organisation and provides technical engineering support on UK and international projects, including supporting complex Nuclear New Build, Decommissioning and Defence programmes. Assystem has been expanding across Nuclear New Build both in the UK and Internationally. We’ve are heavily involved in client-side work within the Hinkley Point C (HPC) project. Given the success and relationships we have developed, we have now been asked to support the upcoming Sizewell C Nuclear New Build Programme. Sizewell C (SZC) is a replica of the ongoing HPC Programme and is expected to have a value of circa £20bn. The project will provide circa 7% of the UK energy demand and provide 'always-on' low-carbon electricity to power six million homes. The Sizewell C Project requires a number of Project Managers to manage the end to end delivery (EPCC: Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning) of a scope of Systems, Structures and Components (SSCs), ensuring that their scope is delivered Safely, to Quality, on Time and within Cost for their respective contracts/scope. The first objective of the role within the first months is to sufficiently advance the engineering (provided by the Responsible Designer - RD) and secure the supply chain to de-risk the SZC Final Investment Decision (FID), through the maximum possible replication of the HPC detailed design. Each Project Manager will work closely with especially the SZC supply chain team, the Responsible Designer (RD), the SZC quality team and the suppliers to prepare for and execute the delivery phase of the project, and will be dedicated to a group of system(s), building(s) and contract(s) within the Nuclear Island (NI) Programme. Responsibilities/Deliverables ·        Take a global overview of the nuclear power plant Systems, Structures and Components (SSCs) within their scope, with a view to maximise replication from HPC and prepare for key contracts to be awarded. ·        Be responsible for the timely delivery of engineering studies by the RD or by key contractors and for ensuring they meet the needs of the SZC project. ·        Prepare with the multidisciplinary team specific post-FID contracts (terms & conditions, contractual appendices and technical specification) ·        Drive the implementation of SZC site-specific design changes into the design deliverables in their programme, including contract specifications to enable robust pricing. ·        Manage internal interfaces (between contracts and systems) and external interfaces (between programme scopes) to ensure a coordinated approach to design and delivery. ·        Manage early engagement with stakeholders (including equipment suppliers) to identify obsolescence issues and other risks to replication. ·        Manage the technical elements of the procurement process for specific contracts. ·        Maintain strong li Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience Essential: ·        Experience of coordinating multi-disciplinary design/procurement work and driving design/procurement teams to deliver on time. ·        Project management or project engineering experience. ·        Background in mechanical, electrical, process, systems or civil engineering for large industrial plants. ·        Good understanding of the complexity of major projects, including interface management between scope areas. ·        Experience of the pre-tender and tender stages of procuring contracts for the design, manufacturing and/or installation of industrial equipment. ·        Excellent communication skills in client-facing and contractor-facing situations.
