Assystem is recruiting for a Design Engineer to join our expanding team in Derby on a Contract basis. Role Details Job title: Design Engineer Location: Derby Hours: 37 hours Contract type: Contract 6months + Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Detail design of one or more composite components. The specific components assigned shall be allocated based on anticipated start date and the skillset of the resourcing solution provided. The components are currently at concept design level of detailing and shall be taken through to approved detail design (Design justification appropriate to Initial Critical Design Review (CDRa). Manage design requirements with regular update of compliancy statements in the corporate requirements database. Creation of a Design, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) workbook, or update to extant workbook where applicable. Creation of design models and/or drawn definitions using Unigraphics NX, or alternatively, the creation of Comms Sheets requesting drawing/model creation Fastener sizing calculations. Incorporation of manufacturing capability/optimisation into the design definition from supply chain feedback. Specification of component coating. Specification of part marking. Management of component weight schedule. Identification of Design Verification and Validation (V&V) activities. Creation and presentation of technical review packs to support Gated Reviews, High-Spots and major technical reviews (i.e. CDRa). Creation of a Design Definition Report. What we are looking for in our next Design Engineer: Mechanical Engineering background Understanding of drawings setup including Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) preferably to ASME Y14.5M-1994. Knowledge of drawing interpretations. Create and maintain a personal work plan in MS Project. Experience of Teamcenter (desirable) Experience of Teamcenter (desirable). Experience of model and drawing creation/manipulation in Unigraphics NX (desirable). Experience of tolerancing to ASME Y14.5M-1994 (desirable). Experience of fibre reinforced plastic component design (highly desirable) Manufacturing/material development experience of fibre reinforced plastics (desirable). **Security clearance** This role requires the successful candidate to hold a minimum of a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Due to the nature of work this role will be delivering and for the protection of certain assets, the successful candidate has to be a UK national or in MoD approved cases a Dual National from a non-ITAR country.
